Smog inspection is a multi-layered examination done on components and systems of a vehicle to get an idea of how it operates, as well as the level of emissions it causes. California is one of the few states with well-detailed smog checks and laws on emissions. In addition, California mandates smog inspections during registration and renewal of your vehicle, hence the need to properly maintain your vehicle.
Do I Need a smog inspection?
On your annual renewal form, it will indicate if a Smog Inspection is necessary for your vehicle.
Your vehicle does not need a smog inspection if your:
- Gasoline-powered vehicle is a 1975 year model or older (This includes motorcycles and trailers.)
- Diesel-powered vehicle is a 1997 and older year model OR with a Gross Vehicle Weight of more than 14,000 pounds.
- Powered by natural gas and weighs more than 14,000 pounds.
- An electric vehicle.
- Gasoline-powered and less than eight model-years old.
How to get a smog inspection?
If you are notified that you need a smog inspection or are bringing a vehicle in from out of state, you can make an appointment.

Our Process

Visual
Inspection
First, we begin by inspecting the emissions control components and the systems on your vehicle.
2nd
Functional Inspection
Next, we perform a functional inspection which consists of items such as the check engine light, ignition timing, ODB and more.
3rd
Tailpipe Emissions
Inspection
Finally, we inspect the tailpipe emissions using the testing probe to check your vehicle's compliance with emissions standards.
